This 120km line, with a capacity of up to 30MTPA, is an excellent readymade offshore route for our captured CO₂ – helping us to speed up development of our solution, decrease both risks and costs, and minimise the impact to sensitive marine areas.
Originally called the Lincolnshire Offshore Gas Gathering System (LOGGS), this 36 inch diameter pipeline is ideal for transporting the captured CO₂, quickly, safely and securely, on the last leg of its journey – out to the Viking reservoirs for storage.
Because we installed the pipeline and operated it for decades, we know exactly how it was made, laid and used, and in turn, its fitness for purpose for transporting captured CO₂. Moreover, we have recent inspections giving us high confidence that this pipeline is ready to do its new job as part of our CCS solution.
We will add a new 20km section to the end of our existing 120km offshore pipeline, to connect to the injection point of our undersea storage.
