Viking CCS is strategically located in the UK’s most industrialised and largest CO₂-emitting region – there is significant demand on our doorstep for our high-quality, high-volume CCS solution.
Benefits
Our solution brings together high demand for carbon capture and storage (CCS) and the safe, cost-effective high-quality, high-volume solution to meet that demand – so we can make an important difference in helping the UK to reach net zero by 2050 and achieve energy security.
Why Viking CCS?
-
-
The proximity of such high volumes of CO₂ which need to be captured and stored makes our solution more cost-effective, as does our smart reuse of existing infrastructure ideally suited to CCS.
-
Reusing infrastructure, together with the expertise of our team, our decades of experience in the Southern North Sea and our strong relationships with our Cluster members, minimises the risks of our solution.
-
We have an established track record of delivering projects of this scale. From the strength of our team, to the integrity of our storage reservoirs – high quality runs throughout every aspect of our solution.
-
Our pipelines can transport high volumes of captured CO₂, and we have 300 million tonnes of storage capacity in our reservoirs deep beneath the seabed.
-
Our project will have a large positive impact on inward investment, jobs, skills and overall prosperity in the region. Jobs will peak during the construction phase, with a long-lasting supply chain impact as we operate over the coming decades, creating opportunities at all skill levels across many sectors. It has been estimated that decarbonising industries in the Humber provides a route to safeguard over 20,000 jobs. Overall, we calculate that £5 billion of gross value add (GVA) will be added to the region by 2030 across the CCS industry chain (including capture and storage).
